Peggy Lord Supports Orbis to Leave a Legacy

Peggy Lord was a longtime supporter of Orbis. Her husband Charlie served on the Board of Directors when Orbis was founded in 1982. They saw it start out as an idea, a dream. “Seeing it become a world-renowned, sight-saving organization was very exciting,” Peggy said.

She and her husband flew into Beijing onboard the Flying Eye Hospital a few years after Orbis was founded. They interviewed candidates for surgery and saw an operation being performed. They met an architect who had lost his sight and had surgery onboard. His wife arranged a surprise for him. When his bandages were removed, she had some of his architectural drawings there—drawings he hadn’t been able to see or create for a long, long time. 

“He had such a big smile on his face. It brought tears to our eyes,” Peggy said.

Her heart was with Orbis in the fight against avoidable blindness. “Orbis is the only hope for so many people who are needlessly blind. That is why I’m leaving something in my will to help this marvelous organization continue its work, both in sight saving and in training doctors in sight-saving techniques. At the same time, I’m honoring my husband Charlie,” Peggy said.

She hoped that many people would join The Visionary Club and leave a wonderful legacy of restored sight.
